Dr. Loren Borud Outside Of The Emergency Room
With more than 20 years in the medical field and eight working as a faculty member at one of the country’s most prestigious medical universities, Dr. Loren Borud has built a solid name for himself as a plastic surgeon.
Recently, however, Dr. Borud has decided to take off his scrubs and surgical gloves and put on a business man’s suit instead. Apart from holding seminars and publishing articles in major plastic surgery journals, the former medical practitioner now runs his own specialty consulting firm, where he provides expert advice on marketing, strategic planning and micro-economics to various sectors of the healthcare industry.
Committed to his new career as an entrepreneur, Dr. Borud is currently completing an Executive MBA program at Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management. Loren Borud continues to work as a professional healthcare consultant, advising biotechnology and surgery-related companies on product development, marketing, and web design. He also provides his consulting services to private equity and venture capital firms on how to maximize their investments in the field of aesthetic surgery and medicine.
Apart from running his own business, the former medical practitioner has also been putting together a book entitled “Plastikonomics: What I’ve Learned As a Harvard Plastic Surgeon.” Currently nine chapters long, the book unravels the economics of plastic surgery.
Taking cues from his first-hand knowledge and past experiences, Dr. Loren Borud gives a no-frills account about the current dynamics between plastic surgeons and their patients, and the changes the medical field has undergone in light of cultural and governmental influences. The plastic surgeon’s book is deliberately honest, discussing even controversial topics as malpractice litigation, the reality of government utopian healthcare plans, and how serious medical misinformation is so easily and quickly propagated on the Internet, causing reputations to tumble down before the physician can defend himself or herself.
